Thomas Barenthein

Managing Director.

Thomas Barenthein has built his career in specialty insurance, starting out in aviation underwriting at Skandia International and later working in reinsurance at Guy Carpenter. In 2008 he joined Hannover Re in Stockholm, where he went on to lead the Scandinavian operations.
In 2020, Thomas took on the role of Managing Director for HDI Global Specialty in Scandinavia.
With decades of international experience and a strong connection to the Nordic market, he brings both knowledge and a down-to-earth leadership style to the team. Thomas is known for his collaborative leadership style and his commitment to building strong teams and lasting partnerships. His journey reflects both the global outlook and the Nordic spirit that define HDI Global Specialty in Stockholm.

HDI– Sweden Branch is based in Stockholm and forms part of the Talanx Group. The branch provides specialized insurance solutions in International and General Aviation, Specie, Marine, Financial Lines, as well as Political Risk/Credit and Political Violence and combines strong local expertise with global reach through the HDI Global network

The Stockholm team has decades of experience in the insurance market and manages the full insurance cycle – from underwriting to claims handling. The operations also include the development of delegated authority business, where HDI Global Specialty provides highly rated risk capacity for MGAs and entrepreneurs across the Nordic, Baltic, and Central European markets.
